Bowel Cancer Screening Resources

Bowel Cancer is preventable, and if caught early it can be successfully treated in 90% of cases. NACCHO has a number of resources for health professionals and community to learn more about the bowel screening process in Australia. Inaugural ‘Immunisation for Health and Life’  Primary Care Infectious Disease Meeting

Immunisation Coalition is holding this meeting in Melbourne on 7 October. This hybrid event is specifically designed for General Practitioners and Practice Nurses. This is an RACGP CPD accredited activity.

60-Day Prescribing

60-day Prescribing has begun! Under the policy change, more than 300 medicines will become available for 60-day prescriptions. A list of medicines now available for 60-day dispensing is available here, and more information can be found on NACCHO’s website.

COVID-19

COVID-19 Competition – Win flights, accommodation and tickets to NACCHO Members Conference

6 ACCHSs and 15 creative people can win return flights, accommodation, and tickets for up to 3 ACCHSs staff members to attend the NACCHO’s Members’ Conference in Perth this October.

Enter the COVID-19 Vaccination promotion competition by submitting a deadly video advertisement/promotion that represents the theme: Getting a COVID-19 vaccination is looking after yourself, for your chance to win!

Entries will be judged on the following criteria:

  1. Relevance to the theme: Getting a COVID-19 vaccination is looking after yourself
  2. Composition
  3. Creativity
  4. Originality
  5.  Appropriateness for the target age group: Category 1 – kids 5–12 years (in the ACCHS community), Category 2 – teens and adults 13–49 years (in the ACCHS community), Category 3 – older adults 50+ (in the ACCHS community).

Sexual Health

Cervical Cancer Screening Education

The Women and Newborn Health Service have developed Cervical Cancer Screening Education for Aboriginal Health Practitioners that is now available on AMSED. This education covers the link between HPV and cervical cancer, how cervical cancer can be prevented, and how to screen for cervical cancer – including information about self-obtained lower vaginal swabs.

Perth Birds and BBVs training

The two-day Birds and BBVs (STI and BBV) training was delivered at AHCWA on 17 and 18 August. Participants included Health Promotion Officers from Wheatbelt Aboriginal Health Service in Northam, Support Workers from Moorditj Koort in Medina, Aboriginal Health Project Officer from MCDC and Midwife from Derbarl Yerrigan Health Service East Perth. The training was delivered in partnership with Hepatitis WA and WAAC. The feedback received was very positive, participants stated that the opportunity to yarn and connect with other community workers was very beneficial and feeling more confident with the increase in knowledge to yarn with clients and community about STIs and BBVs, there were also plenty of laughs.
