AHCWA Senior Policy Officer Kim Brewster Celebrates Five-Year Milestone

On 25 May, AHCWA’s Senior Policy Officer, Kim Brewster celebrated five years of service with the organisation—a tenure defined by commitment, growth, and a deep-rooted drive to create positive change in the lives of Aboriginal people and their communities.

Kim began her career at AHCWA in 2020 as a Policy Officer, bringing with her a sharp intellect and a strong sense of social justice. Within just a few months, she was seconded to the position of Policy Officer for the Sustainable Health Review. She helped contribute to this critical statewide initiative that focused on delivering patient-centred, high-quality, and financially sustainable healthcare. Her work in this area showcased her tenacity and clear commitment to improving systems to result in better outcomes.

In November 2021, Kim stepped into the role of Senior Policy Officer, where she continues to make a meaningful impact within the Sector. Her current work alongside Jenny Bedford on the National Health Reform Agreement demonstrates her dedication to shaping policies at both a State and National level.

Kim also strongly advocates for oral health reform, recognising its importance in improving overall wellbeing within Aboriginal communities. Her dedication to this issue led her to provide evidence at the Senate Committee Hearing on the Provision of and Access to Dental Services. This opportunity highlighted her expertise and passion on a national stage. She has since helped secure AHCWA’s position on the State Oral Health Advisory Council, ensuring that the voice of Aboriginal health is heard in key decision-making spaces.

AHCWA CEO Des Martin praised Kim’s contributions: “Kim is tenacious and has a strong sense of social justice. She is dedicated and truly committed to her work. She has represented the Sector and the organisation well in the Sustainable Health Review and continues to do so in her current projects.”

However, Kim’s impact within the organisation goes beyond policy. Communications Manager Kim Bredenhann said, Kim is really driven in the work she does. She has huge integrity and drive, and her wealth of knowledge, experience, and passion are an asset to AHCWA. She is also big-hearted and generous, volunteering as a Mental Health First Aid Responder for colleagues in need of support.”

Kim’s presence is also felt in light moments around the office, and her beloved annual Irish quiz has become a much-anticipated event on AHCWA’s social calendar—a testament to her community spirit and willingness to bring people together.

Congratulations, Kim, on this incredible five-year journey. AHCWA is thankful for your unwavering dedication, insight, and kindness, which continue to enrich the lives of those around you.
